Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium Funding:

At Uppingham Community College our aim is for all students to succeed regardless of background or circumstance.  We have high aspirations for all students both with their academic success and their success beyond the classroom.  We seek to ensure that all students have access to a broad and balanced curriculum with quality first teaching to help them succeed in their learning. This is enhanced by our curriculum enrichment opportunities available to all, with bespoke provision for Pupil Premium students. All of this is underpinned by an excellent pastoral support system within school geared to individual need and governed by our core values of respect, honesty and kindness.

The pupil premium is additional funding for publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged students and close the gap between them and their peers.

“It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium, allocated to schools per FSM student, is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual students within their responsibility.” Source – DfE website

The pupil premium funding is used to maximise student potential through supporting quality-first teaching, additional opportunities and interventions which all have a positive impact on students’ progress, outcomes and personal development.  We aim to remove barriers to learning so that ALL groups of students make good progress, meeting age-related expectations at each stage throughout school. At UCC pupil premium funding is used to support with the cost of branded school uniform and provide essential equipment and learning resources, e.g. set texts and revision guides. It is also used to contribute towards and subsidise the cost of home to school transport, school trips and enrichment activities. Other support may be available as needed.

A Pupil Premium strategy is agreed as a 3-year plan but is reviewed annually by the governing body.  Our latest plan can be found below.

Free School Meals (FSM) Information

Please note that in addition to the below, as part of our FSM provision, students also have access to free toast each morning that does not come out of their allowance.

How the Allowance Works
Daily Credit: Your child’s daily FSM allowance of £3.05 is automatically loaded onto their account every morning.
Flexible Usage: Students can use their allowance at any time during the day (such as morning break or lunchtime) on any food or drink items available in the dining hall.
Lunchtime Value: The £3.05 allowance is calculated to cover the cost of a full nutritious main meal and dessert at lunchtime.

Key Rules to Keep in Mind
No Roll-Over: The £3.05 daily credit is strictly for use on that day—unused funds do not roll over to the next day or week.
Overspend Charges: Any purchases made beyond the £3.05 daily limit will be charged to your child’s account and will require topping up via our online payment system.

Making the Most of the Daily Credit
Because the daily allowance is fixed, any purchases made earlier in the day (e.g. at morning break) will reduce the remaining balance available for lunch. To ensure your child gets a nutritious warm meal during the main lunch break, we strongly recommend the following:
Bring a refillable water bottle from home - water refilling stations are available throughout the school. Bringing a drink from home helps preserve the full £3.05 allowance for food.
Pack morning snacks from home - if your child gets hungry before lunchtime, bringing a small piece of fruit or a snack from home for break time ensures their entire £3.05 credit remains untouched for a full lunch.
Plan ahead - talk with your child about budgeting their allowance so they aren't incurring additional charges.
