Aims

To equip learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to cook and to learn about food hygiene, nutrition and healthy eating

Our Home Cooking Skills courses aim to give every young person the basic skills and knowledge to be able to cook for themselves in a healthy, cost-effective way, learn basic practical cooking skills as well as gain the confidence to share these skills with friends and family. Cooking is an essential life skill, empowering us to make changes that benefit our health and wellbeing.

Introduction – Why Choose BTEC Home Cooking Skills?

Learning the basic cooking skills will allow students to become more independent. It will help them to learn the basic skills and recipes that will help them to make healthy choices throughout their lives and to understand the relationship between diet, nutrition and health.

Approach

The BTEC Level 1 Home Cooking course has a practical approach that empowers students in their own learning and development through practical experiences. These are supported by the development of theoretical understanding through explorative lessons and activities, with students regularly checking their own progress and development.
