Safeguarding

At Uppingham Community College, the safety, wellbeing and welfare of every student is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to creating a school community where every young person feels safe, valued, respected, listened to, and where they know there are trusted adults they can turn to if they have a worry or concern.

Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility. Our staff are trained to recognise signs that a child or young person may be at risk of harm and to respond promptly and appropriately to concerns. We work closely with parents and carers, external agencies and our local safeguarding partners to ensure that students receive the right support at the right time.

Our safeguarding work includes child protection, online safety, attendance and absence, mental health and wellbeing, bullying, harmful sexual behaviour, exploitation, neglect, domestic abuse and other risks that may affect children and young people.

We promote safeguarding through our Culture Curriculum, assemblies, tutor time, PDE curriculum and everyday interactions with students. We want our students to understand how to keep themselves and others safe, both in school and beyond, including when using social media, gaming platforms and other online spaces.

If you have a concern about the safety or wellbeing of a student at Uppingham Community College, please contact the school and ask to speak to a member of the safeguarding team.

You do not need to be certain that a child is at risk before reporting a concern.
