Dear UCC families,
In our assembly this week, I asked our students to think about Kindness, and how they can be kind to those around them, as well as themselves. I have spoken with many students throughout the week who have been enthusiastically telling me about how they have been kind to members of our school community, as well as their families at home. I've also 'caught' students being kind, whether it is as simple as asking their friends if they have any litter they would like to be taken to the bin in the dining room at break, or as impressive as one particular student who is working hard on behalf of young people in Rutland to make a difference in the local community by lobbying local politicians and councillors to restart the Rutland Youth Parliament. Kindness comes in many forms, and it is such an important value for us as a school.
We were disappointed that the athletics event was cancelled this week, but the numbers of schools and therefore the number of participants continued to dwindle because of local Covid outbreaks - I think we would have been the only school there in the end. Our PE department are working closely with the Rutland School Games Organiser and other local schools to get an alternative event set up in September.
You may have seen that the provision for schools and the guidance for 2021-22 has been a topical debate in the news this week. I hope that we will receive clear guidance about what the expectations will be, so that we can confirm our plans for September and communicate these to our school community. As soon as I can, I will update you with our plan for the start of the next academic year.
I hope you have a great weekend.
