Students

Every student at Uppingham Community College can expect to receive a wide range of careers advice and guidance during their time studying with us. Information and advice is provided for GCSE options and post-16 destinations and beyond, as well as a variety of events intended to open up many different future career pathways. The Personal Development Education curriculum has a dedicated strand covering Careers and Financial Capability.  You will also have access to an experienced Careers Adviser for 1:1 guidance during your time in school and a personalised START profile which will help to match your skills and interests to a large database of employment areas and specific jobs. You will also complete a work experience placement during the summer term of year 10.

On the Resources page you will also see various websites and resources you can use to help you further your research into career and post-16 options.  Our resources page, can be accessed via this link.

Some key areas for you to explore are available here.

Post-16:

During your time at UCC you will receive a lot of information about post-16 Options.  Some of this information will come from our local providers when they visit you in school, some will be through your careers provision in lessons and PDE and some will come from additional curriculum experiences.  To access further information about post-16 options, please use this link.

Post-16 Evening:

One of the best ways to learn about post-16 options is to meet with local providers and network with employers.  Our post-16 evening is an excellent way of doing this.  All KS4 students are invited to attend this evening, each year.  For further information on how to get the best from this evening, please use this link.

Apprenticeships:

Apprenticeships have become a popular choice for post-16 education and training.  Not only do they develop individuals within a work-based placement, but they also open up a number of career pathways.  To explore apprenticeships further, please use this link.

Work Experience:

Work Experience is an excellent way for students to get experience within the workplace, explore industries, jobs and roles, as well as network with employers.  There are many benefits to work experience which can have an aspirational impact on students.  For further information about work experience in Year 10, please use this link.

Post-18 Choices:

Like your transition from secondary to post-16, transitioning to post-18 brings a whole new set of considerations and tough decisions.  To find out further information about post-18 choices, please use this link.

Post-18 - University:

It’s never to early to start thinking about university and the implications this has on your career pathway.  Although you will explore university courses as part of your Careers in the Curriculum lessons, we have prepared some extra information for you to consider.  Use this link to take you to our university information page.
