Return to School - from September 2020

Please see a letter from Mr Solly, that has been sent out via email today...

Please also see the draft plan attached at the bottom of this page.

Dear parents and carers,

Following the publication of guidance for the re-opening of all school in England, the senior leadership team at UCC have been planning for how this will be implement in our school. The first draft of our plan is attached to this email and you can watch a video version of this presentation by clicking here. I would recommend that parents/carers spend some time watching this video alongside your son/daughter so that you all have a good understanding of what school is likely to look like in September.

We have planned for a range of scenarios that may be required from September, depending on the local and national situation with COVID-19. ‘Scenario 1’ is the plan which we are intending to implement from September 1st 2020, however this is subject to change based on how the situation evolves and the advice/instructions that are issued to schools.

It is worth noting that the guidance for schools has mandatory elements for all schools to implement, whilst recognising that other measures might need to be adapted to the individual circumstances of schools. The compulsory measures are below:

1) Minimise contact with individuals who are unwell by ensuring that those who have coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms, or who have someone in their household who does, do not attend the setting.

2) Clean hands thoroughly more often than usual.

3) Ensure good respiratory hygiene by promoting the ‘catch it, bin it, kill it’ approach.

4) Introduce enhanced cleaning, including cleaning frequently touched surfaces often, using standard products such as detergents and bleach.

In addition to implementing these, the main features of our Scenario 1 plan are:

  • Maintaining year group bubbles as much as possible
  • Delivering the full curriculum to all students
  • Managing the movement of students and staff around the site safely
  • Adapting our break and lunch time arrangements to avoid mixing students between year groups

We have completed thorough risk assessments to ensure our site is safe and we can deliver our full curriculum to all students. However, we will continue to review our plans and risk assessments throughout the summer so that we are able to respond to local or national changes as appropriate.

In the final week of August I will send further communication out to parents and carers to confirm our final arrangements so that everyone knows what to expect from 1st September.

I will be sending out a survey for students to complete on Thursday this week. This will help us understand how students are feeling about returning to school and we will consider these views carefully when finalising our plans.

Thank you for your continued support of our school.

Yours faithfully,
Mr B Solly
