Headteacher's Welcome to UCC
Welcome to Uppingham Community College, or UCC as we are more commonly known. We are an 11-16 school of 900 students and sit proudly in the spectacular rural community of Uppingham within Rutland.
Our core values as a school community are: Respect, Honesty and Kindness. Everything we do is based upon these simple principles. Our students consistently achieve excellent GCSE outcomes and we are very proud of our holistic approach to developing respectful and responsible young people who are ready for life in our ever-changing world. I am hugely proud to be Headteacher of this school which has a long standing reputation for high academic and pastoral standards, and I have bold ambitions to ensure that UCC remains the natural school of choice for all our families in the years to come. I firmly believe that young people need three key elements to be successful in secondary school - to be taught really well by people who are passionate about their subject, to feel safe and cared for, and to feel that they belong to a community. At UCC we work really hard on ensuring these three components are in place for our students at each stage of their journey with us.
We pride ourselves on having a unique UCC 'feel'. This is an intangible commodity, but one commented on by visitors and members of the community regularly. Ultimately, we want all of our students to thrive during their five years with us, we want them to have repeated electrifying moments of learning and experience that inspire and challenge them, and we want them to feel supported to become well-rounded young people, fully prepared for the next exciting stage of their lives. I always charge our students with these three simple challenges:
-
Aim to do better than your previous best in whatever you do
-
Find your 'thing' during your time with us – a thing that you care passionately about
-
Try and make the world a slightly better place.
I hope you will take the time to take a look around our website or come and visit us in person to see and feel for yourself what makes UCC a unique place.
