Performance

2022 GCSE Results

We are incredibly proud of all students in the Class of 2022. Their Key Stage 4 experience was regularly punctuated with significant challenges, whether it was restrictions on their education due to the pandemic, or a delayed start to Year 10 because of the fire at UCC. Staff and students throughout this period have been truly magnificent and we are delighted with the exceptional outcomes our students achieved.

We have always known that 2022 was a ‘transition year’ between 2021 (when assessment was done directly by schools and colleges) and 2019 (the last year exams took place). This does not mean that marking was more generous or harsher – expert examiners applied mark schemes as fairly as ever and grade boundaries were set by exam boards at a mid-point between these two years.

The national picture at GCSE is that most schools have higher outcomes than 2019 but lower than 2021. However, UCC results have bucked the national trend and are actually higher than our 2021 and 2020 results (Attainment 8 – the average grade for students across 8 subjects), as well as being higher than any results pre-pandemic. Therefore, the 2022 results below are the highest ever achieved by students at UCC.

TAG = Teacher Assessed Grades (used in 2021)
