The D of E Award

Here at Uppingham Community College we are a Licenced Provider of The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme. 

The present situation is that Mrs Thomas will be relinquishing her DofE responsibility after 25 years of working with the Award. All students that are currently enrolled on the Award will be supported by Mrs Thomas until they complete their Award or leave UCC at the end of Year 11.

Please ensure your son or daughter has signed up for one of the expedition dates, submitted paperwork and payment as required.
Bronze Practice / Final Saturday 23rd June – Sunday 24th June
Bronze Practice / Final Saturday 30th June – Sunday 1st July
Silver Practice Friday 29th June – Sunday 1st July (Leaving UCC at 4pm on Friday 29th June)
Bronze Final Saturday 14th July – Sunday 15th July
Bronze Final Wednesday 18th July – Thursday 19th July
Silver Final Friday 7th September – Sunday 9th September (Leaving UCC at 7.30am on Friday 7thSeptember)

Mrs Thomas is unable to offer any other Expeditions so it's imperative that students sign up to the dates offered.

Timescales in more detail:

Bronze (from the start of Year 9)

  Plan, train for and undertake a 2 day, 1 night expedition.

All participants must undertake a further 3 months in the Volunteering, Physical or Skills sections.

Silver (from the start of Year 10)

6 months

One section for 6 months and the other section for 3 months

Plan, train for and undertake a 3 day, 2 night expedition.

Direct entrants must undertake a further 6 months in either the Volunteering or the longer of the Physical or Skills sections.

Gold (must be 16 years old to start)

12 months

One section for 12 months and the other section for 6 months

Plan, train for and undertake a 4 day, 3 night expedition.

Residential: Undertake a shared activity in a residential setting away from home for 5 days and 4 nights.

Direct entrants must undertake a further 6 months in either the Volunteering or the longer of the Physical or Skills sections.
