Climate Change

On Friday 4 May the Cookie Club was delighted to welcome Phil Gibbard from Cambridge University. He gave a talk on Quaternary Science. The Quaternary is the geologically recent past and his talk focussed on how the climate has swung from ice age to warm periods many times. Phil spoke to just short of 50 students, introducing them to a world of ice cores and isotopic oxygen deep sea sediment readings that was both clearly explained and expertly pitched.

He finished his talk with predictions about future climate change and particularly human driven Global warming.

Given that Climate Change and Global Warming are key issues for the GCSE Science and Geography courses this was a very useful talk and it was great to see so many upper school students attending.
