Dear parents and carers,

It has been a great first week back and as always there has been lots going on at UCC. Our Year 10 Citizenship students visited the Houses of Parliament yesterday and on Wednesday our music students enjoyed a number of creative song writing workshops with visiting musician Rich Cottell.

I have enjoyed observing many lessons throughout the week as we begin our Department Self Review process. This process involves our Heads of Department assessing the impact of the educational provision in each subject they deliver and our English team have set a very high standard in the review they conducted this week. What I have been most impressed with is the excellent relationships I have witnessed between teachers and their students which results in a very purposeful and focussed learning environment, and really impressive teaching. However, as a school we are not resting on our laurels and we are challenging ourselves to continually make improvements to the way in which we educate your sons and daughters and this series of department self reviews will enable us to identify the refinements that will have the greatest impact.

We hosted our latest Supporting Success evening last night, with a focus on preparing Year 11 students for their final year at UCC. It was great to see so many families in attendance; the resources will be published on our website very soon.

I hope you all have a great weekend.

Mr Solly.
