Dear Parents & Carers

I have received so many emails and positive comments from people who visited our Open Evening last week. Our guests were incredibly impressed with UCC students, who were a credit to the school. We have taken a number of families around UCC on a normal working day throughout this week and students have conducted these school tours for us. Again, our students were magnificent and we are very proud of everyone who has represented UCC superbly during this process.

We hosted our annual Post 16 Information Evening for Year 11 this week, which saw 79% of families attend. This is our highest ever percentage of parental engagement at one of these Post 16 education events and we are challenging ourselves to achieve upwards of 90% attendance at parents' evenings throughout the rest of this year.

Yesterday we welcomed 12 Spanish students to UCC as part of our foreign exchange programme. These students will be staying with UCC families until next Tuesday, immersing themselves in our culture as much as possible both in school and the local communities. A huge 'thank you' must go to our families who have taken in the Spanish students; these exchange trips simply cannot happen without the generosity and good will of host families. I am sure everyone will make our visitors feel very welcome.

As we move into the final week of the half term I have asked everyone at Team UCC to be as positive and consistent as we were on the first day of term. It is really easy to achieve high standards at the start of the academic year and my challenge to everyone; staff, students, parents and myself, is to uphold those high standards consistently throughout the year. It often takes a bit more effort and conscious thought to be as brilliant at the end of term as we were on 'day 1', but I know everyone here is striving to make UCC a truly great school; the only way we will do this is by working together.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Mr Solly
