Dear parents, carers and students,

Throughout our first full week back in school I have continually been impressed with students and staff at UCC. We have made an excellent start to term and I have been made to feel very welcome; UCC already feels like home to me.

I have spent a lot of time walking around the school site and popping into lessons; the level of focus I have seen from students has been very impressive. Equally, I have really enjoyed seeing our established staff as well as new colleagues building positive relationships with students.

We are extremely pleased with our GCSE results from the summer, which were the best in the history of the school. GCSE grades are changing and instead of A*-G, students now receive a numerical grade with Grade 9 the highest and Grade 1 the lowest. Grade 4 is considered a ‘standard pass’ and is the equivalent of the ‘old’ C Grade.

Below are the statistics from our 2017 GCSE results:

Achieving these superb standards is a result of excellent teaching, unrivalled pastoral care and a relentlessly aspirational attitude from the staff at Uppingham Community College.

This week we launched our extra-curricular timetable and it has been great to see students immersing themselves in enrichment activities. Mr Lewin has produced a superb guide to what is on offer this year; please take the time to look through it by clicking here.

Finally, I am looking forward to meeting Year 10 parents on Thursday next week at the Supporting Success evening which will take place in our Drama Studio from 18:00pm – 19:00pm.

I hope you all have a great weekend.

Mr Solly – UCC Principal.
