Principal's Weekly Bulletin
The start of term is always an exciting time for everyone involved in education. Whether you are a student or one of the adults working in a school there is no escaping the sense of anticipation that accompanies the first day of a new school year.
This year has been even more exciting than usual for me, taking over from Mrs Turner as the Principal of UCC and assuming the great privilege of leading this fantastic school. I feel honoured to have been given this opportunity and my first week here has been wonderful.
The UCC staff completed two days of training before students returned on Thursday and I have been incredibly impressed with the passion and professionalism demonstrated across the entire staff team. Our two days together this week enabled me to explore a number of themes with the staff, in particular I was interested in what they perceived the values of our school to be, along with what working here means to them. I have consolidated our shared values down to three memorable words, which we will use to guide and influence everything we do as a school:
UCC Core Values: Respect, Honesty, Kindness.
I really like the simplicity of these three incredibly powerful words and I know our school community will work hard to collectively demonstrate these in our actions, behaviours and decisions.
One of our students, Lewis Darlington in Year 9 was called up for the England U15 football squad earlier this summer; this is an incredible achievement, well done Lewis. You can view some photos of Lewis in his England kit on our Facebook page.
Finally, I’d like to share a YouTube clip that I used with the staff earlier this week. It demonstrates the powerful impact we can have with young people if we provide them with the right conditions to thrive and develop, if we believe in them and if we inspire them every day.  Click here to watch the clip.
I hope you all have a great weekend.
Mr Solly.
