Principal's Weekly Bulletin

Dear parents and carers

We’ve had a great first week back following the half term break. It has been wonderful to hear about the fantastic experiences our students had on the junior and senior ski trips to Austria. I’ve also enjoyed getting around the school site a lot this week, dipping into classrooms to see what is going on; it has been pleasing to see we have hit the ground running in spring term 2 and there has been an impressive level of focus across the school.

Yesterday, we held our options advice evening for Year 9 students and their families and this event was very well attended. Selecting the right GCSE qualifications in Key Stage 4 is extremely important and I would urge parents to spend time talking to their son or daughter about the curriculum options available to them.

You may have noticed an increase in the content we are publishing through our social media accounts recently; this was particularly evident with the recent ski trips and the huge volume of photos that were taken! We are using these platforms to promote the school, celebrate student successes and to communicate with our community and stakeholders. We are also able to advertise staff vacancies and because of the nature of these social media platforms, it is very easy for these to be shared and therefore reach a wider audience. For example, we are currently advertising for a part-time teacher of science, to begin in September and this has been advertised on our website, on the TES but also on our Facebook page; if parents and other stakeholders within the UCC community ‘share’ this advert then we will attract a wider audience and gain a stronger field from which to select the right candidate. Your support in this is greatly appreciated.

I hope you have a great weekend.

Mr Solly.
