Principal's Weekly Bulletin

Dear Parents and Carers

We have reached the end of another half term and although we have only had slightly less than six weeks, we have achieved an astonishing amount in this time.

Since the beginning of January, we have hosted a magnificent drama showcase, progressed superbly in several sporting competitions and welcomed esteemed guest speakers to our school to inspire our students. We have held a competition to rename our newsletter (What’s UPP Edition 1 will be published before Easter) and we have organised several educational trips, during which our students represented UCC brilliantly. In particular, our recent Spanish exchange trip for Year 10 students is worth noting, as these opportunities are becoming increasingly rare in secondary schools.

Our Year 11 students have completed their pre-public exams and received their results and I was delighted to see such a large turnout at parents’ evening last night. I was equally pleased to hear positive comments about the learning focussed conversations our staff had with parents; this is a result of some staff training we completed in January and it was good to see the impact of this in the recent Year 11 reports and throughout last night.

Our ski trips depart this evening and I hope both parties enjoy a fun week on the slopes and return injury free! For us to organise both a senior and junior ski trip is remarkable and testament to the hard work and dedication of staff at UCC.

For all of the celebration of our achievements during this half term, today is a sad day at UCC as we close the doors on Uppstarts Nursery. I would like to thank the staff at Uppstarts who have been truly magnificent and incredibly professional during an extremely challenging period of time. Some of the team have joined UCC in a different role and others have moved on to employment at other local nursery providers. The parents of children who attend Uppstarts have been so positive about the staff there and on behalf of everyone at UCC I would like to thank the team for their hard work and dedication over a number of years at Uppstarts; I wish them all the very best for the future.

Thank you for all your support as parents; the triangular relationship between school, family and student is a crucial part of ensuring young people thrive in their education and we are always seeking ways to strengthen this at UCC.

I hope you all have an enjoyable half term.

Mr Solly.
