Principal's Bulletin

Dear parents and carers,

Our pre public exams for Year 11 finished this week and our students should be praised for their excellent attitudes throughout this period. We have our internal results day on 31.01.18 and once students have received feedback from their teachers, the real preparation for the formal examinations that start in May will begin. We will be sending out specific communication to our Year 11 parents explaining how they can support their sons and daughters during this crucial stage of their education.

I received a lovely email this week from the Rutland Sports Development Manager, Chris Thomas, praising our Year 7 and 8 Sports Leaders:

Dear Mr Solly

I just wanted to write to commend the performance of your sports leaders that supported my event today.

Given their age, the enthusiasm, maturity and the level of ability as leaders they showed was, without exaggeration, utterly amazing.

You should extremely proud of every one of them and what they achieved today.

Chris

I was indeed, very proud of these students and I hope they found the experience worthwhile and rewarding. Opportunities like this are a great way for young people to develop their confidence, communication and leadership skills and I was delighted to hear about how brilliant they were. On a personal note, I owe a great deal to the people who gave me coaching opportunities when I was still at school, and at UCC we are leading the way in Rutland by encouraging sports leadership from Year 7 upwards and we are very proud of this.

We are in the process of revamping our newsletter and students have one more week to submit their suggestions for what the newsletter should be called. There are some family cinema tickets up for grabs for the winner, so please encourage your son or daughter to get their creative thinking caps on!

Next week we have lots going on with the Science trip for Year 10, a visiting Vet for our Cookie Club and the drama showcase that features The Tempest performance. The Tempest performances are on Wednesday and Thursday and there are still some tickets available if you would like to come and watch!

I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Mr Solly.
