Upp-Starts Statement

Uppingham Community College – Upp-Starts statement

It is with deep regret that I write to you to inform you that Uppingham Community College is starting a consultation period to close Upp-Starts Nursery.

Upp-Starts Nursery has been experiencing financial challenges for the past six years. During this period the nursery has made a profit in only one year, incurring significant losses across the other five. We have attempted to address these issues by implementing new terms and conditions from September 2017, however, the nursery is still remaining financially unviable. Therefore, the governors of Uppingham Community College have regrettably entered into a consultation period for the closure of Upp-Starts. The details of the consultation timeline are detailed below:

Date(s) Event

6th December 2017: Start of consultation

20th December 2017: Close of consultation and consideration of solutions

21st December 2017: Principal and Governing body to review feedback

9th February 2018: Proposed date for closure

We do recognise however, that we have a duty of care to all stakeholders of Upp-Starts and considering this, have reviewed the current nursery provision available in the local area.

Should Upp-Starts close:

· All children currently attending are guaranteed a place at Little Angels in Uppingham where the registration fee will be waived;

· A tailored transition arrangement for children may be considered during the notice period;

· Current staff are guaranteed an interview for Nursery vacancies and any suitable positions within the College will be ring-fenced for Uppstarts staff;

· Uppingham Community College staff will retain a discount should they wish for their child to transfer to Little Angels. We have set up an email address consultation@ucc.rutland.sch.uk which we would be pleased to receive any feedback you choose to submit during this consultation period and answer any queries or comments.

Yours faithfully,

Mr B Solly
