UCC Fundraising Update – including the Sponsored Walk!

Dear Parents and Carers
No doubt you have already heard lots about the success of the ‘Sponsored Walk’ held on 30thJune and have been waiting with bated breath to know how much was raised.
This was the first time we have organised and undertaken such an event. A huge effort and contribution by members of Staff was instrumental in making it happen. I would especially like to thank Mr Anderson and his ‘Task Force’ for their fantastic work in planning everything down to the last detail, including the post-walk party.
10kms proved to be something of a ‘cakewalk’ for most and quite a few completed a second lap – including yours truly! Feedback has been universally positive, everyone had great fun and there is strong support for doing it again.
In total, around 800 participated, including numerous members of Staff, Governors and parents. Several students who were unable to do the walk undertook alternative sponsored activities.
Around 350 forms and sponsor money have been returned. Numerous additional individual donations have also been very gratefully received. With the intervening summer break, it has taken some time to analyse the returns and we’re not finished yet.
There have been 144 sponsorship forms and other individual donations which each contributed £50 or more. Of these, 27 raised £100 or more. So far, a total of just under £19,000 has been raised.
This represents a terrific result. I would like to thank everyone who put so much effort and commitment into securing sponsorship. Our sincere thanks go to all those who so generously sponsored the walkers or made a donation. Every single contribution is greatly valued.
If there is any outstanding sponsorship money which has been collected over the last number of weeks (I know this has been quite a task), we would be very grateful if this payment could be made to the College as soon as possible.
Our pursuit of other fundraising avenues is continuing:
  • We are currently preparing a capital bid to the Department for Education which must be submitted by December.
  • During the summer, while all of this has been going on, a further Science Laboratory has been refurbished. This makes three in total, so far.
Early in the New Year we will be asking for your further help. We are planning a ‘Grand Draw’ with several cash prizes to be won. We will be requesting all parents to sell as many draw tickets as possible and hope that you will be kind enough to do this. More information will be communicated in due course.
Your help is absolutely crucial to our efforts and ambitions to provide the very best facilities that we can for every UCC student. In 2018 we will be two years away from the College’s centenary and your continued support will be invaluable.
Many thanks.
Yours sincerely
Rob Sawyer
