The School, which was established in 2015 as a partnership with Catmose College, Uppingham Community College and Oakham School, provides an academic education for those students wishing to pursue an A level route for their post-16 education.
Particular strengths identified by Ofsted included the effective collaboration between school leaders and excellent partnerships with local feeder schools. The wealth of experience in education offered by Harington’s governors was also noted, as was the quality of support for students making decisions about higher education and careers.

Head of School, John Harrison, said
“We believe we have created something truly special at Harington and to have this validated externally in such a clear way is an incredible achievement.”
Ofsted was notably impressed by the students, observing in its inspection report that, “Students take a great deal of pride in their work and commit very seriously to their studies; they develop good independent learning skills and use these to enhance their subject knowledge, with striking impact on their progress.
"Students are highly motivated to learn and demonstrate a keen sense of enquiry in lessons; they have a very strong interest in their subjects and thrive in the academically challenging learning atmosphere.”

Principal of Uppingham Community College, Jan Turner, said “I am delighted that Harington has received such an early endorsement of its success in providing the high quality post-16 education that all parties worked so hard to secure for the young people of Rutland. The opportunities that Harington provides for students from Uppingham Community College can only go from strength to strength.”

The first ever cohort of Harington students has already received an impressive range of offers from universities. Over 75% are holding offers from prestigious Russell Group universities, and two students have been accepted into Oxford and Cambridge pending their all-important A-Level results this summer.

Chair of Trustees, Rob Guthrie, said “To be judged by Ofsted as Outstanding when the School is less than two years old is a truly remarkable achievement and we are extremely proud that Rutland now has an excellent sixth form provision within the state sector to complement that already existing in the private sector.”

Due to the large number of recent enquiries about September 2017 entry, Harington School has extended its deadline for applications until Friday 7 April. Interested students should email office@haringtonschool.com or call 01572 772579 for further information.
