Texting Parents

From September 2014 we took part in a nationwide research program which involved texting parents to improve pupil outcomes by engaging parents in their children’s learning.  Texts informed parents about dates of tests, whether homework was submitted on time, and what their children were learning at school.

The results of the project have now been published, you can read a summary of the findings here.

The most important finding in the report us was that students who had the missing homework intervention experienced about one month of additional progress in maths compared to other students.  This seems a significant gain for very little effort and as Mrs Turner told parents in her bulletin to parents, last week, “we will be reintroducing the homework texts from this week.”

During this three month ‘texting’ trial if a student misses a homework deadline and receives a behaviour point, we will send a text informing you of the details and asking you to discuss the issue with the student.

Please support the college in this trial as we are sure it will make a difference to our students.
