Weekly Bulletin 27/01/2023

Please see the latest weekly bulletin below....

Dear UCC Families

If you’ve visited the school site during the past fortnight there’s a good chance you will have seen a huge amount of progress with our new MFL/Business/SEND building (we will find a catchier name for it soon). We received the delivery of the final prefabricated block yesterday and now the contractors will turn their attention to transforming these into a substantive building which will look very similar to the adjacent maths block. This is a very exciting development for us which means we can discontinue using the old mobile buildings after this academic year and create a wonderful new learning space for our students.

I wrote to you earlier in the week to outline our plans for the first of the four NEU strikes. At the start of next week we will be providing Y7-10 students with information on what our expectations will be of them regarding their remote learning tasks that will be on Satchel:One. Year 11 students will be expected in school as normal and will follow their usual timetable. If you missed that email, our website has the details https://www.uppinghamcollege.org.uk/news/?pid=0&nid=5&storyid=448

Today the world remembers the atrocities of World War II through international Holocaust Memorial Day. Mr Brooks, our Head of RE, has expertly delivered assemblies throughout the week which have required students to think and reflect on the unimaginable number of Jewish people that were victims of genocide in the Nazi death camps. Events such as the Holocaust are shocking and upsetting topics, but they contain important lessons for our students to learn about, and the assemblies have been complemented by activities for students in form time.

This week we received a kind donation of 'nearly new' meeting room chairs, from an organisation who no longer required them. We will put these to good use in rooms where parents, students and visitors will sit for meetings in school. We are always grateful to receive such kind offers and donations, as it helps us in stretching an extremely tight budget even further.

We are still seeking a local company/organisation to sponsor a new rugby kit for UCC students, so if you have any contacts who might be willing to do so, please get in touch with us.

Every so often I include a link or two in the newsletter which enables you to view the topics your child is studying now and what they will move onto next. It is useful for you to know this, so you can talk to them about what they’ve been learning. Our website has all the curriculum maps for all subjects across all year groups, so please do take a look: https://www.uppinghamcollege.org.uk/page/?title=Subject+Areas&pid=73

Please take the time to read through the newsletter.

I hope you have a great weekend
Mr Solly
