Weekly Maths Challenge 4

You have to mend a hole in a floor. The hole is two feet wide and twelve feet long and you are given a piece of wood three feet wide and eight feet long.

What is the smallest number of pieces you would need to cut the wood into so that it completely covers the hole but didn’t overlap?

Give the dimensions of the pieces in your answer.
