Weekly bulletin 30/06/2023

Please see the latest weekly bulletin & newsletter below...

Dear UCC Families

We started this week with the sensational Design, Technology and Art Exhibit, where Year 11 work was showcased for staff, governors and families. The standard of work on display was truly remarkable, not just in terms of the final products and artwork, but also in the work produced throughout the course. The meticulous planning, documenting and evolution of ideas evident throughout student folders was astonishing and I am sure our students will achieve superb outcomes in the summer.

We are very proud of our curriculum and the wide range of subjects that are available for students. Our commitment to celebrating the creative subjects, rather than solely focussing on subjects that might be perceived as 'more academic', allows students to express themselves and develop essential life skills that will certainly help them in later life.

On Monday we also began the major elements of our Y6-7 transition process. Our incoming Year 7s spent the day at the Rutland Showground completing team building exercises with their new tutor groups and form tutor. This event has been part of our transition plan for 3 years now, and it is a great way for students to make new friends and get to know the teacher who will provide them with pastoral support across the next 5 years. Then on Tuesday and Wednesday, Year 6 spent a more typical day at UCC, receiving guided tours from our excellent Year 10 leaders and experiencing a range of lessons. Our main aims during transition are to allay any fears young people might have about starting secondary school, alongside building their confidence and nurturing a strong sense of belonging. We know that young people learn more effectively when they feel happy and safe, so we work hard to develop this sense of psychological safety as early as possible. The 3 days were incredibly successful, and we are really excited about our new Year 7s starting next term on Thursday 31st August.

Please note that our finish time for Friday 14th July is 1:30pm, which is when the buses will be dismissed.

Please take the time to read through the rest of the newsletter as there has been a lot going on at UCC this week.

I hope you have a great weekend
Mr Solly
