Parent Bulletin 21/05/21

Please see the latest bulletin from Mr Solly below...

Dear parents and carers,

I want to start with how impressed I have been with students as I have been walking around school throughout the week. I have seen focussed and calm classrooms, with students deeply immersed in learning activities. Students have demonstrated great attitudes, which has been lovely to observe.

Despite the awful weather we have experienced, and the delays in delivery times due to Covid, our re-building project remains on track for a mid-August completion. I spent some time with the site manager on Thursday as we monitored the progress they are making - the scale of the work is enormous, but they are confident of meeting the deadlines we have set. As the work progresses, I will share images, but much of the work so far has been on infrastructure and isn't particularly exciting at this stage.

Next week we will be holding interviews for a new position, a Key Stage 2/3 Transition Teacher, which we have created using the 'Covid Catch Up' funding provided for schools. This money has been given to schools to provide 'catch up' and 'intervention' for students; I don't like either of these terms and I have not been convinced that online tutoring by independent organisations (who do not know our students) is a good use of this money. Instead, we funded some after school sessions for our Y11 students earlier in the year using UCC colleagues, and we will retain a pot of money from this fund to provide a similar service for Y11 in 2021-22. The remainder of this funding will pay for this new KS2/3 Transition Teacher position that we are currently advertising for. This is a one year, fixed term contract for teacher who has experience of delivering English and Maths at KS2 and has a good understanding of the KS3 requirements in these subjects. The successful candidate will work with targeted students in Key Stage 3 throughout 2021-22 and provide intensive, small group teaching to support their progress.

I hope you all have a great weekend.
