Y11 Assessment Arrangements

Y11 Students and parents please see an update from Mr Brooks below...

I am writing to inform you of the assessment arrangements that we will be putting in place for Year 11 students next term. We had previously planned for a series of mock exams during the Spring Term, but it has become clear that it is now not possible or appropriate for these to take place.

We propose that, based on the assumption that Year 11 students will be back in school from 8 March, we will focus on face to face teaching for the first two weeks, and then incorporate some tests into lessons in the last week or so before Easter.  These assessments may well be part of an exam paper but will only cover topics students have been taught. We want all students to be able to demonstrate their knowledge, skills and understanding in these assessments, so our teachers will ensure that students are well-prepared and aware of the topics that will be assessed. These assessments will take place in normal lesson time, in classrooms, supervised by their teacher.  We hope this will help to reduce student stress as it diminishes the ‘exam’ feel, but it will still give us evidence of work completed in controlled conditions.  If you have any questions please email:  uccexams@ucc.rutland.sch.uk.

We are currently awaiting the results of the consultation carried out by Ofqual which will give us guidance on how GCSE grades will be awarded this year. However, in May and June we expect that students will sit tests which have been written by the exam boards. The results of these tests will be combined with the results of the assessments taken before Easter along with other relevant assessment data to arrive at a grade for each subject. The details of this process we await from Ofqual.

After half term, we will provide further details of the assessment for each subject and update you if we need to make any changes to these arrangements in response to any of the Government’s announcements which are due to be made on 22 February. We will also be sending you information about qualification entries after half term.
